These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of HanziSeed. By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA) may also apply:

Where both apply, Apple’s EULA controls for Apple-required license terms; these Terms cover our additional product terms.
1. The Service
HanziSeed provides Chinese character and vocabulary learning features, including lessons, dictation, challenges, mistake review, and related educational tools. Features may change over time.
2. Eligibility and Parental Responsibility
If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with a parent or guardian’s consent and supervision.
Parents and guardians are responsible for:
- Supervising children’s use of the App
- Managing Apple ID purchases, Screen Time, and Ask to Buy settings
- Ensuring children do not submit personal information into optional online translation inputs or support emails
3. License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Rules.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, reverse engineer, or create derivative works except as allowed by law
- Rent, lease, sell, sublicense, or redistribute the App
- Bypass trial, payment, or access controls
- Use the App for unlawful or abusive purposes
- Scrape or bulk-export content beyond normal personal learning use
4. Educational Content Disclaimer
Learning materials, pronunciations, stroke orders, translations, and scoring are provided for educational convenience. They may contain errors or regional variations. The App is not an official school curriculum, examination authority, or certified tutoring service. You are responsible for how you use the content.
5. Free Trial, Subscriptions, and Purchases
5.1 Free access / trial
The App may offer limited free use or a trial. Details shown in the App or App Store product page control.
5.2 Auto-renewable subscriptions
Monthly and yearly subscriptions may be offered. Unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, Apple may automatically renew and charge your Apple ID. Manage or cancel in:
Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions
5.3 Lifetime unlock
A one-time non-consumable purchase may also be offered.
5.4 Apple billing and refunds
Prices appear at checkout. Payments, taxes, and refunds are handled by Apple. Request refunds through Apple (for example, reportaproblem.apple.com).
5.5 Restore
Use Restore Purchases to restore eligible entitlements for the same Apple ID.
6. Local Data
Learning progress is stored on device. Uninstalling the App may erase local progress. Purchases remain associated with your Apple ID according to Apple’s systems.
7. Third-Party Services
Optional translation APIs and public CDNs may be used for meanings or stroke animations. Those services have their own terms and availability. We are not responsible for third-party outages, quotas, or accuracy.
8. Intellectual Property
The App, branding, and our original materials are owned by us or our licensors. Word banks, audio, and stroke data may include third-party or publicly sourced materials used under applicable rights. These Terms do not transfer ownership to you.
9. Disclaimer
THE APP AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that learning outcomes will meet any particular school or exam standard.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP FEATURE AT ISSUE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $10.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; there, liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.
11. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the App or violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

13. Changes and Termination
We may update the App or these Terms. Continued use after updates means you accept the revised Terms, except where law requires otherwise. We may suspend or discontinue features at any time. Your license ends if you violate these Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China (excluding conflict-of-law rules), without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections where you live. Courts in Shanghai, China shall have non-exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory local law requires otherwise.

16. Apple-Specific Terms
You acknowledge that:
- These Terms are between you and Chen Ting (HanWorks), not Apple.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
- If the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the App purchase price (if any) as required; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for claims relating to the App (product liability, legal/regulatory compliance, consumer protection).
- Apple is not responsible for third-party intellectual property infringement claims related to the App.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms.
- You represent that you are not located in a U.S.-embargoed country and are not on a U.S. government prohibited/denied party list.
