These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of HanSee. By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA) may also apply to App Store purchases:

Where both apply, Apple’s EULA controls for Apple-required license terms; these Terms cover our additional product terms.

1. The Service

HanSee helps you scan Chinese text from photos (camera or photo library), recognize characters on device, and learn related meanings, pronunciation, and stroke information. Features may change over time.

2. Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding contract under applicable law. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with a parent or guardian’s consent and supervision.

3. License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Rules.

You may not:

• Copy, modify, reverse engineer, or create derivative works except as allowed by law
• Rent, lease, sell, sublicense, or redistribute the App
• Bypass trial, payment, or access controls
• Use the App to infringe others’ rights or process unlawful content
• Attempt to disrupt or abuse third-party APIs used by the App

4. Camera, Photos, and Your Content

You are responsible for the images you capture or select. You represent that you have the rights needed to use those images in the App.

Do not use the App to scan content you are not allowed to copy or process. OCR output, translations, and dictionary results may contain errors; do not rely on them as professional, legal, medical, or certified translation advice.

5. Free Trial, Subscriptions, and Purchases

5.1 Free trial

The App may offer a limited free trial. Trial details shown in the App or App Store product page control.

5.2 Auto-renewable subscriptions

Monthly and yearly subscriptions may be offered. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, Apple may automatically renew the subscription and charge your Apple ID. Manage or cancel in:

Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions

5.3 Lifetime unlock

A one-time non-consumable purchase may also be offered.

5.4 Apple billing and refunds

Prices are shown at checkout. Payments, taxes, and refunds are handled by Apple. Request refunds through Apple (for example, reportaproblem.apple.com).

5.5 Restore

Use Restore Purchases to restore eligible entitlements for the same Apple ID.

6. Third-Party Services

The App may call third-party services (for example, online translation APIs and public CDNs for stroke data). Those services are subject to their own terms and availability. We are not responsible for third-party outages, quotas, or content accuracy.

7. Intellectual Property

The App and our materials are owned by us or our licensors. Dictionary, stroke, and translation data may be licensed from third parties. These Terms do not transfer ownership to you. Your photos remain yours.

8. Disclaimer

THE APP, OCR RESULTS, TRANSLATIONS, AND LEARNING CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. Recognition and translation may be incomplete or incorrect.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP FEATURE AT ISSUE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $10.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; there, liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

10. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your misuse of the App, or your violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

12. Changes and Termination

We may update the App or these Terms. Continued use after updates means you accept the revised Terms, except where law requires otherwise. We may suspend or discontinue features at any time. Your license ends if you violate these Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China (excluding conflict-of-law rules), without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections where you live. Courts in Shanghai, China shall have non-exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory local law requires otherwise.

15. Apple-Specific Terms

You acknowledge that:

• These Terms are between you and Chen Ting (HanWorks), not Apple.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
• If the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the App purchase price (if any) as required; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
• Apple is not responsible for claims relating to the App (product liability, legal/regulatory compliance, consumer protection).
• Apple is not responsible for third-party intellectual property infringement claims related to the App.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms.
• You represent that you are not located in a U.S.-embargoed country and are not on a U.S. government prohibited/denied party list.
