Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start a lesson?
On the Learn tab, tap "Today's lesson" or tap any lesson card to start learning. Each group has 3 characters with a Learn -> Fill -> Write flow.
Why is there no sound?
Make sure your device is not in silent mode and the volume is up. HanziSeed uses both system TTS and bundled audio files. If audio still doesn't work, try closing and reopening the app.
How does handwriting work?
In the Write step, use your finger or Apple Pencil to trace the character in the writing area. After writing, tap "Show Answer" to self-check your work.
How do I buy Premium?
The purchase screen is available on first launch. Open it in any of these ways:
- Profile tab → orange Unlock Premium banner → View Plans
- Learn tab → gear icon → Settings → Unlock Premium
- Profile tab → gear icon → Unlock Premium
The paywall lists Monthly (Monthly Premium), Yearly (Yearly Premium), and Lifetime (Lifetime Premium). Select a plan and tap Continue.
How do subscriptions work?
HanziSeed offers Monthly Premium, Yearly Premium, and a one-time Lifetime Premium. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. Monthly and yearly plans auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in the iPhone or iPad Settings app → Apple ID → Subscriptions. A free trial does not hide this purchase screen.
Can I restore a previous purchase?
Yes. On the paywall, tap Restore Purchases. You can also open Learn or Profile → gear → Settings → Restore Purchases. Purchases are tied to the same Apple ID. Restore does not list the three plans; use Unlock Premium to see them.
How do I track my child's progress?
Go to the Profile tab to see active days, completed groups, and mastered words. Progress and reports stay available without a subscription. After the free trial, Premium unlocks new lessons, Daily Words, and Challenge All; finished groups and review stay free.
Is HanziSeed suitable for my child?
HanziSeed is designed for kids and beginners starting to learn Chinese characters. Content covers Grade 1–3 vocabulary. Parents can supervise and manage purchases via Apple's Ask to Buy and Screen Time settings.
